Dangerous Goods are items or substances that may endanger the safety of the aircraft or persons on board the aircraft.

Disabling devices such as mace, pepper spray or other devices containing an irritant or incapacitating substance is prohibited on a person or in their carry-on or checked-in baggage. Security type attaché cases containing Dangerous Goods such as lithium batteries or pyrotechnic devices are also forbidden.

You MUST NOT take the following items on board a Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue aircraft or pack them in your checked-in baggage under any circumstances:

Petrol or gas engine equipment such as chainsaws, mowers or lawn trimmers either new or used are also not permitted.

The following items may be taken on board Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue aircraft in quantities specified below:

• Alcoholic Beverages: Maximum of 5 litres in total is permitted in retail packaging as carry-on or checked-in baggage. Consumption of Alcohol carried on board is not permitted on the aircraft.
• Toiletry and Medicinal Articles: including aerosols such as hair sprays, deodorants and perfumes as carry-on or checked-in baggage for personal use. Each container cannot contain more than 0.5 litre or 0.5 kilogram. In total you are not permitted to take more than 2 litres or 2 kilograms. Release valves on aerosols must be protected by a cap or other suitable means to prevent inadvertent release of the contents.
• Medicinal Oxygen Cylinders: Permitted in carry-on or checked-in baggage. You must contact Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue for specific details, and inform the check in agent that you are travelling with medical oxygen. Liquid oxygen systems are not permitted.
• Safety Matches and Lighters:
  • Either one small compressed gas lighter or a box of safety matches or a liquid fuel lighter where the flammable liquid is fully absorbed.
  • A blue flame cigarette or pipe lighter is permitted provided the fuel is totally removed.

These items can only be taken on board on ones person. "Strike anywhere" matches are forbidden for air transport.

• Dry Ice: With the approval of Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue, each guest is permitted to take up to 2.5 kilograms of dry ice in a ventilated container as carry-on or checked-in baggage, if used to pack perishables only. You are not permitted to combine more than the amount permitted for one person. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with dry ice.
• Small Mercury Thermometers: In carry-on or checked-in baggage for personal use when in a protective case.
• Mercury Barometer or Thermometer: A representative of a government weather bureau or similar agency can only carry these items as carry-on baggage only. You must tell the check in agent that you are travelling with these items.
• Wheelchairs or other Battery Powered Mobility Devices*: These are permitted as checked-in baggage. You must contact Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue Guest Contact Centre on 13 6789 for specific details.
• Heat Producing Articles: Diving torches and other heat producing articles are permitted in carry-on baggage only. They must be disabled so there is no chance that they can be inadvertently switched on. If removing a battery from the heat producing article, the battery terminals must be protected from short circuiting by the application of electrical tape or similar means. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with these items.
• Aerosols in Division 2.2 Containing Non-Toxic or Non-Flammable Gas: Very small compressed gas cylinders may be permitted for sporting or home use in checked-in baggage.
• Carbon Dioxide Gas Cartridges for the Operation of Mechanical Limbs: These items are permitted in quantities for the duration of the flight.
• Life Jackets: One life jacket and two spare cartridges are permitted as carry-on or checked-in baggage as long as the compressed cartridges contain carbon dioxide or other non-flammable gas. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with a life jacket and or spare cartridges.
• Insulated Packages Containing Refrigerated Liquid Nitrogen: These packages are sometimes termed as 'Dry Shippers'. These packages can be in carry-on or checked-in baggage and only be used if the liquid nitrogen is fully absorbed and it has the capacity to release any build up of pressure. Only non dangerous goods can be transported within the 'dry shipper'. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with a package that contains refrigerated liquid nitrogen.
• Weapons (guns, knives etc) are only permitted as checked-in baggage and special packaging and storage conditions apply. If travelling internationally with these items, certain customs requirements may apply. You must contact Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue Guest Contact Centre on 13 6789 for specific details. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with these items.
• Ammunition for Sporting Purposes (cartridges for weapons): You are permitted to take quantities not exceeding 5 kilograms of ammunition in checked-in baggage only that is classified in Division 1.4s UN0012 or UN0014. You are not permitted to combine more than the amount permitted for one person. If travelling internationally with these items, certain customs requirements may apply. You must contact Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue Guest Contact Centre on 13 6789 for specific details. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with ammunition. Note: Ammunition that has projectiles of an explosive or incendiary function are not permitted.
• Consumer Electronic Devices Containing Lithium or Lithium Ion Cells Batteries such as laptops, watches, video recorders and cellular phones are permitted in carry-on or checked-in baggage. (Note: Electronic Devices powered by Fuel Cell Systems are only permitted as carry-on baggage). A maximum of two spare batteries or fuel cell systems are permitted in carry-on baggage only as long as they are not damaged and battery terminals are insulated to prevent short circuiting.
• Camping Stoves and Fuel Containers that have contained a Flammable Liquid: These items may be permitted as checked-in baggage as long as the fuel tanks are totally drained and action taken to nullify the danger. You must tell the check-in agent that you are travelling with these items. Note: Contact Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue Guest Contact Centre on 13 6789 for further details on the process required to nullify the danger.
• Hair Curlers Containing Hydrocarbon Devices: One is permitted in carry-on or checked-in baggage as long as the safety protective cover is on. Spare cartridges are not permitted.
• Fire Sticks: Only metal fire sticks are permitted as checked-in baggage, provided no wicks are attached.
