Blue Zone Conditions of Sale
General
Blue Zone seating is located in Boeing 737 and Embraer E190 over wing exit rows, plus Row 1ABC onboard Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue Boeing 737 Aircraft.
Accordingly, if you want to sit in a Blue Zone seat, you must meet our safety requirements which are described below.
* Safety requirements
To be seated in a Blue Zone seat, you must:
- Be 15 years or older
- Be physically able to locate and operate the emergency exit, and to quickly pass through the exit
- Be able to converse in English with our Cabin Crew about the tasks you will be expected to perform in an emergency evacuation and read the safety card provided by our Crew for that purpose
- Be willing to assist the Crew and other passengers in the evacuation of the aircraft
- Not have any condition (be it a consequence of age, frailty, injury, physical or psychological disability, vision or hearing impairment, sickness, injury or anything else) which may prevent you from performing the duties listed above
- Not be travelling with a carer, a guide dog or an assistance animal
- Not be carrying an infant
- Not require the use of an extension seat belt
A boarding pass for Blue Zone Seating will only be issued once our Ground Staff confirm that you meet the safety requirements described above. This important safety requirement means that you will not be able to use Web Check-in or Kiosk Check-in if you have purchased a Blue Zone seat.
Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue do not guarantee particular seats, even if your reservation is confirmed. We commit that if you have pre-purchased Blue Zone, subject to Aircraft type*, operational and safety requirements, we will seat you in an exit row seat. In the rare instances that we are unable to accommodate you in Blue Zone, we will credit you the Blue Zone fee paid#.
*Blue Zone is not available on Embraer E170 Aircraft or flights operated by Skywest. Blue Zone does not apply to Premium Economy (Virgin Blue only) as this fare already includes extra personal space (and more)!
#Credits are non-refundable and must be used within 12 months from the date of first booking by contacting the Guest Contact Centre, applicable Guest Contact Centre rates apply.
If you can no longer meet the safety requirements
If your circumstances change and you subsequently cannot meet the above safety requirements, please call the Guest Contact Centre prior to travel to remove the Blue Zone reservation. You will receive a credit# for your Blue Zone fee.

^ Fee is per person, one way, for each sector in the applicable booking currency of country of origin or purchase. Formal connections are categorised as ‘Long’ distance, and charged $45 AUD/NZD, $60 FJD, $70 TOP, $90 WST in the applicable booking currency of country of origin or purchase.+ Blue Zone Fees apply as follows:
- Virgin Blue Short Flight: Albury-Sydney, Adelaide-Melbourne, Brisbane-Hamilton Island, Brisbane-Mackay, Brisbane-Newcastle, Brisbane-Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast), Brisbane-Rockhampton, Brisbane-Sydney, Ballina (Byron)-Sydney, Canberra-Melbourne, Canberra-Sydney, Coffs Coast-Sydney, Hobart-Melbourne, Launceston-Melbourne, Melbourne-Newcastle, Melbourne-Sydney, Newcastle-Gold Coast, Gold Coast-Sydney, Port Macquarie-Sydney, and vice versa.
- Virgin Blue Medium Flight: Adelaide-Brisbane, Adelaide-Canberra, Adelaide-Hobart, Adelaide-Gold Coast, Adelaide-Perth, Adelaide-Sydney, Broome-Perth, Brisbane-Canberra, Brisbane-Cairns, Brisbane-Hobart, Brisbane-Melbourne, Brisbane-Townsville, Canberra-Gold Coast, Coffs Coast-Melbourne, Cairns-Sydney, Hobart-Sydney, Hervey Bay(Fraser Coast)-Sydney, Launceston-Sydney, Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast)-Melbourne, Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast)-Sydney, Melbourne-Gold Coast, Mackay-Sydney, Rockhampton-Sydney, Sydney-Proserpine(Whitsunday Coast), Sydney-Townsville and vice-versa.
- Virgin Blue Long Flight: Adelaide-Broome, Brisbane-Darwin, Brisbane-Perth, Cairns-Melbourne, Melbourne-Darwin, Melbourne-Perth, Perth-Sydney and vice-versa, plus all formal connections.
- Pacific Blue Domestic New Zealand / Short Flight: Auckland-Christchurch, Auckland Wellington, Christchurch-Dunedin, Christchurch-Wellington and vice-versa.
- Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue International / Long Flight: Auckland-Apia, Apia-Sydney, Auckland-Brisbane, Auckland-Rarotonga, Auckland-Tongatapu, Brisbane-Nadi, Brisbane- Port Vila, Sydney-Nadi, Sydney-Tongatapu, Auckland-Gold Coast, Brisbane-Christchurch, Brisbane-Wellington, Christchurch-Melbourne, Christchurch-Sydney and vice-versa, plus all formal connections.
Velocity Points
Blue Zone is a Special Service Request (SSR) Fee, and accordingly, you cannot redeem your Velocity Points for Blue Zone seating, and you will not earn Velocity Points when purchasing Blue Zone seating.
Booking changes
Blue Zone bookings are non transferable.
Cancellations and Changes to flight bookings with Blue Zone seating may be made via the Guest Contact Centre, in accordance with the Fare Rules associated with the flight booking and Fare Rule fees will apply. Blue Zone seating cannot be changed or cancelled online. Changes to flights made online may result in forfeiture of the Blue Zone fee and no credit issued.
If Blue Zone seating is unavailable on the changed flight, the Guest Contact Centre will issue a credit in the amount of the Blue Zone fee.
